wondering

I watch her for a moment and I wonder if she ever wonders what it would look like if I hadn't left years ago. Would I be sitting just like this watching her face as she reads, here in my home but under different circumstances?
"Do I have something on my nose, Nathaniel?"
"What? No, no. I was just thinking..."
"That I can see." Marika smiles slightly as her dark eyes meets mine. "What is it?"
"Have you ever wondered how it would be if I hadn't left Ferelden?" I ask carefully.
"No." I didn't expect such firm and short answer. She sees my surprise and confusion and her smile widens.
"No?"
"We were engaged and you left without a single word. I was angry and hurt, I didn't want to think about it then, especially after your father told me that you left to avoid marrying me." Her voice is calm but I can see the spark of long forgotten anger as the memory of humiliation she had to suffer crossed her mind.
"That's not why I left! I had no choice!"
"I know that now yet still you should had come and explain."
"How was I supposed to do that? Break into the castle and sneak into your chamber through the balcony?"
"That wouldn't be the first time!" Marika chuckles.
"Yes, my first and only attempt ended up with painful fall and broken leg."
"It was sweet and romantic..."
"...and stupid." We laugh together.
"We probably would be a horrible marriage anyway." She adds still laughing.
Maybe she's right and we are better friends than we would be lovers.


Drawing that picture made me think about their past. Since I've played DA Awakening for the first time the thought that they had some history never left my mind. I could probably draw another comic with those two, but I already have many of these and I decided to do something different.
